Novel approach to construction of wooden bridges

Abstract

A novel approach to the construction of wooden bridges is commented in the paper. The significance of such bridges has increased over the last decade in Europe and in North America as evidenced by higher rate of construction of road and pedestrian bridges made of wood. The construction of new types of wooden bridges in our country, in Norway, and in the U.S.A,. is briefly described. Some economic indicators in favor of construction of wooden bridges, particularly those with transversely prestressed laminated wooden deck slabs, are also presented.
